The latest news doing the rounds is that the apps developed for Windows 8 machines will now be compatible with Xbox One. Be it Windows Mobile Phone Apps or the apps for your PC the company is making an all out effort to expand its portfolio. During a presentation at the BUILD 2013 there were some selective words for Windows 8 applications and gaming developers by the vice president of the Developer & Platform Evangelism at Microsoft.
Presently the price of Xbox One is £399.99 in UK and it is available at the third party retail shops. According to the statements released by the company there could be slight changes in the pricing of Xbox One. At the time when the product was unveiled the company had made frequent references to Xbox One to be available in three different OS. Carrying further on these remarks Guggenheimer left some hints which indicate Microsoft might just allow its developers to make some arrangements to use the Windows 8 applications on the new Xbox One.
Ever since the Xbox One was released a couple of months back, Microsoft had referred that it is running on the same code as that of Windows 8. However, there has been no mention as how these applications have been created for the platform. Although the company had shown its apps, app switching on its platform and usage of apps like Skype there haven’t been any such indication. It should be noted that it is possible for third-party developers to create entertainment apps for Xbox 360 which is an invitation-only affair.
In case the developers are allowed to make applications for Xbox One, it might turn out to be a great winning proposition for the Microsoft. It could provide a boost to its “three screens” mantra which the company has been portraying for some years now. The possibility of purchasing the apps for windows phone and having them appear seamlessly on the Windows machine or Xbox One does not seem far from real now. Moreover, it would be in the interest of the company to launch this as soon as possible to gain an upper hand over the planned update scheduled to arrive by Apple TV. The update by Apple is expected to allow the users to download applications from the iTunes store.
